Upon arrival at Dublin Airport you will pick up your rental car.

Before you get to Dublin city Centre, I recommend a trip to the Howth peninsula. There are seals living in the harbor and they are happy to pose for a photo. Howth is also well known for its fresh seafood. There are a number of restaurants in the harbor.

After having eaten you can drive up to Howth Summit for a nice photo stop atop the Cliffs overlooking Dublin Bay.

Continue to Dublin and check into your centrally located hotel for the next part of your Irish adventure.

Today you travel through the majestic Wicklow Mountains.

From Marble City to Rebel County

In the morning explore Kilkenny, a city in southeast Ireland known as a Marble City. You can wander along its ancient cobbled streets to discover historic landmarks like Kilkenny Castle and St. Canice’s Cathedral. Admire arts and crafts at the famed Kilkenny Design Centre

Next, set off on the road to Cashel, where the Rock of Cashel, a stunning medieval fortress perched atop a limestone hill, awaits to transport you through centuries of Irish history and architecture.

Then it’s further south to the biggest county in Ireland, known to locals as Rebel County with the capital city of Cork, the second-largest city in the Republic of Ireland. The city once was the Venice of Ireland until the early 20th century. At that time, the canals were only covered by alleys and streets and slumbered under the city centre. As a result, even the main street is not straight, following the underground river.

Rothe House

Located in the heart of Kilkenny on Ireland’s Medieval Mile, Rothe House & Garden was built between 1594 and 1610. This was once the home and place of business of John Rothe and Rose Archer, one of Kilkenny’s wealthiest, most influential merchant families. The three-storied houses are connected by cobbled courtyards, expansive enough for a family that grew to have eleven children, as well as the house & garden staff that would have been necessary to run such an important household.

Today, you can explore this one-of-a-kind house, a symbol of the status and importance that the city of Kilkenny had in the early 1600s. Through the houses and across the cobbled courtyards, there is a dramatic rise to a magnificently restored garden that reaches back to the original city wall.

Begin your journey by departing from Kinsale and heading to Killarney, a picturesque town on the edge of Killarney National Park.

Here you can embark on the Muckross Lake Loop Trail.

Named for its scenic route around Muckross Lake, this walking trail is among the most breathtaking in Killarney National Park. Spanning 6 kilometers, the loop commences and concludes at Muckross House & Gardens, guiding you through some of Killarney’s most picturesque spots.

Embarking from Muckross House, follow the well-marked path towards Muckross Abbey before veering off toward the Muckross Peninsula, which separates Lough Leane from Muckross Lake.

Wander through the woods on the peninsula, progressing towards Dinis Cottage. Take a moment to relax at Dinis, enjoying a sandwich and coffee, before continuing to witness the Meeting of the Waters, a scenic point where Lough Leane and Muckross Lake converge.

Follow the designated trail back, and you’ll reach a juncture where you can extend the walk towards Torc Mountain or proceed back to the Gardens.

This circuit offers numerous opportunities for captivating photos, so be sure to have your camera handy!

Muckross House & Gardens

This nineteenth century Victorian mansion is set against the stunning beauty of Killarney National Park. The house stands close to the shores of Muckross Lake, one of Killarney’s three lakes, famed world wide for their splendour and beauty. As a focal point within Killarney National Park, Muckross House is the ideal base from which to explore this landscape.

Muckross House was built for Henry Arthur Herbert and his wife, the water-colourist Mary Balfour Herbert. This was actually the fourth house that successive generations of the Herbert family had occupied at Muckross over a period of almost two hundred years. William Burn, the well-known Scottish architect, was responsible for its design. Building commenced in 1839 and was completed in 1843.

The ancient site of Clonmacnoise is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The visitor centre is a great starting point, with a short video introduction that gives you some background information on the site. From there, you have the option of joining a guided tour, which I highly recommend. If you prefer to explore on your own, you can stroll freely through the picturesque ruins and take in the history and beauty of this amazing place. Either way, you’re sure to have a memorable experience at Clonmacnoise.

However, if need to cancel your tour start date 42 days in advance, you can reschedule your tour for free! We will rebook your tour for any dates of your choosing within 365 days of your original tour start date. Your 20% deposit will be credited towards the rebooked tour, with absolutely no cancellation or change fees applied!
